Travel Information

In order to reach Marciana Marina in Elba Island you have first to take
the ferry in Piombino, on the Tuscany coast. Piombino can be easily reached
from Florence or Pisa using the courtesy bus service.
If you are flying to Italy, we suggest flying directly to
Florence or Pisa which are serviced by several flights a day
from major European airports.
See below for more detailed flight information.
ARRIVAL: A courtesy bus is provided for transportation to Piombino on
Sunday September 3, leaving from Florence (at around 13:30 from Santa Maria Novella Station, the city's central railway station,
and at around 14:00 from the airport) and passing through
Pisa (leaving at around 15:30 from the central
railway station and at around 15:45 from the airport).
The tickets for the ferry
to Elba will have to be purchased individually (about 8,00 Euros per person).
In Portoferraio another bus will take participants to Marciana Marina.
DEPARTURE: On Sunday, September 10, at about 7:00 a courtesy bus will pick up participants
in Marciana Marina (from the hotels) and take them to Portoferraio (again
ferry tickets will have to be purchased individually). In Piombino,
another bus will then take the participants back to Pisa (arriving at about
11:00) or Florence (arriving at about 12:30). There will be only the bus
on Sunday.

You should register for the BUS using THIS FORM.
We may be unable to provide bus transportation unless you have registered.

IMPORTANT: this schedule is not final yet and may be changed according to the travel plans of the majority of participants.

  Flying to Italy
  Flying to Italy
If you plan to fly to Italy, you are probably planning to land in Milan
or Rome. We would like to suggest that you also check the possibility of
flying to Pisa or to Florence (including low-cost flights), in order to take advantage of the organized
buses. Pisa and Florence are connected with several international airports.
Please note that Milan has two major airports, quite distant from each other,
Linate and Malpensa. Rome has only one major airport (Fiumicino) serving all
destinations.
Please also note that there could be a few flights with small planes directly
to Elba from Munich, Zurich and Wien (details not available right now!).

If you arrive at Rome airport (Fiumicino)
  You have the following options:
 - Continuing by plane to Pisa or to Florence.
 - Continuing by train to Pisa or to Florence. There are train connections
from the Fiumicino airport to the railway stations in Rome.
 - Continuing by train to Piombino harbor (Piombino Marittima). From Termini Station there are
several trains (direction Pisa-Genova) which stop in Campiglia where you have
to change train to Piombino Marittima.
The connection from Campiglia to Piombino Marittima is usually close to the arrival
 time in Campiglia.
You can check the timetable at the link below

Piombino Marittima is the harbor where ferries leave to Portoferraio
(the main harbor on the Elba Island). The boat trip to Portoferraio takes
1 hour by ferry and 40 minutes by hydrofoil. Tickets can be bought
directly at the harbor offices of two different boat companies serving Elba:
Toremar
and Moby-Lines. Departures are
very frequent (almost one every half an hour): you must check which company
leaves first!
