The Herschel Space Mission
Arcetri Participation

Arcetri Observatory participates in several ways in Herschel:

Guaranteed-Time Key Projects,

Open-Time Key Projects,

Instrument development.
Herschel, short for the Herschel Space Observatory, is the fourth cornerstone mission in the ESA science programme. With a 3.5 m Cassegrain telescope it has become the largest space telescope ever launched (see the latest news). It performs photometry and spectroscopy in approximately the 55-672 micron range, bridging the gap between earlier infrared space missions and ground-based facilities.
